I run Roll-A-Shield, a 45-year-old rolling-shutter manufacturer in Arizona. I'm an owner-operator, not a Silicon Valley engineer — and over six months I put real AI into production across the whole business.

For about three years after ChatGPT launched, I was disappointed by AI. It hallucinated, it made things up, it did the work of a bad intern — entertaining, and useless to my business. Then, one Christmas, my brother (a tech founder) showed me what had just become possible: building real software by describing what you want. I was ready to write it off. He convinced me to try one more time.

It's been a revolution. I've fixed things my team struggled with for ten years in a couple of weeks. I've shipped dozens of tools that my staff and customers now use every single day — the phone, the shop floor, the back office. Over a million lines of code, all of it earning its keep in a real company.
